Learning approach

The right support, then real independence.

Pondo's learning principles are about understanding that lasts — not time on screen.

What Pondo believes about learning

  • Grade is not learning level

A Grade 5 learner may need to revisit an earlier idea or be ready for more. Pondo is designed to start where support should begin.

  • Minimum effective support

The smallest help that is likely to work — a nudge before a hint, a hint before a worked example — then less help over time.

  • Accessibility is not instructional help

Read aloud, text size, spacing and contrast are access tools. They never count against independence.

  • Practice is not mastery

Getting something right while learning is a start, not proof of lasting understanding.

  • Assisted is not independent

Work done with help is recorded as assisted. Independent evidence is gathered with instructional help paused.

  • Retention and transfer matter

Can the child recall it later? Can they use it somewhere new? Pondo checks both separately.

  • A deliberate stop

When enough useful learning has happened, the session ends. No endless feed.

  • No shame, no dependency

Calm, neutral language. No streaks, points or leaderboards, and no design that keeps a child hooked.
